HSE OFFICER- LAGOS & ABUJA (ONSITE-FULL TIME)

JOB SUMMARY

The HSE Officer will be responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe working environment on all project sites by implementing health, safety, and environmental policies, conducting regular inspections, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The role supports the safe execution of MEPF (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Firefighting) activities, minimizing risks and fostering a safety-conscious culture. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Safety Management 

  • Develop and implement project-specific HSE plans, ensuring alignment with company and regulatory standards. 
  • Monitor daily site activities, identifying and addressing potential safety hazards. 
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols. 

    2. Risk Assessment and Mitigation 
  • Conduct safety risk assessments and recommend measures to mitigate identified risks. 
  • Evaluate high-risk operations, including lifting, electrical works, and confined spaces, to ensure safe execution. 
  • Oversee the safe storage and handling of hazardous materials and equipment. 

    3. Training and Awareness 
  • Organize and conduct toolbox talks, safety inductions, and ongoing safety training for site personnel. 
  • Raise awareness among staff and subcontractors on specific risks associated with MEPF systems. 
  • Develop educational materials to promote health, safety, and environmental best practices. 

    4. Inspections and Audits 
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with HSE policies and regulations. 
  • Identify non-compliance issues, document findings, and ensure timely resolution of corrective actions. 
  • Prepare reports on safety performance, inspections, and audit outcomes. 

    5. Incident Management 
  • Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and recommend preventive measures. 
  • Document and report incidents to management and regulatory authorities as required. 
  • Ensure effective emergency response plans are in place and conduct periodic drills. 

    6. Regulatory Compliance 
  • Stay updated on HSE regulations, standards, and industry best practices, ensuring project activities remain compliant. 
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies during inspections and audits to represent the company’s HSE interests. 
  • Maintain accurate records of safety activities, training, and incidents. 

    7. Support for MEPF Activities 
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineering teams to ensure safety is integrated into all MEPF activities. 
  • Review technical procedures and provide safety inputs for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and firefighting operations. 
  • Identify potential safety risks associated with new systems and processes. 

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred) or a related field. Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field. 
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience as an HSE Officer, preferably in the MEPF or construction industry. 
Certifications: NEBOSH, OSHA or equivalent HSE certification, membership in professional safety organizations is an advantage.
