KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Research and Innovation in MEP Systems:
- Lead research initiatives to develop new or improve existing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems (e.g., HVAC systems, electrical distribution, water and waste management).
- Investigate cutting-edge technologies such as renewable energy systems (solar panels, wind energy, etc.), smart grids, and advanced HVAC systems for integration into buildings.
- Conduct feasibility studies and create prototypes for innovative MEP solutions.
- Sustainability and Energy Efficiency:
- Research and design energy-efficient MEP systems that reduce building operational costs and environmental impact.
- Explore and develop systems that comply with sustainability standards (e.g., LEED, BREEAM) and reduce the carbon footprint of buildings.
- Work on the integration of renewable energy sources and energy storage systems (e.g., solar power, battery systems) into MEP designs.
- Technical Research and System Optimization:
- Analyze the performance of existing MEP systems and identify areas for improvement in terms of efficiency, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Use simulation and modeling software to predict the behavior and performance of MEP systems in various building environments.
- Study the integration of IoT (Internet of Things) in MEP systems for smart building applications, including smart HVAC, lighting, and energy management systems.
- Collaboration and Multi-Disciplinary Coordination:
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineers to ensure seamless integration of MEP systems in building projects.
- Work closely with project managers to incorporate new technologies and MEP innovations into building designs.
- Liaise with external suppliers, vendors, and research institutions to stay updated on emerging trends and technologies.
- System Testing and Validation:
- Conduct lab and field tests to validate new MEP designs and technologies.
- Develop testing protocols and ensure systems comply with relevant industry standards, including ASHRAE, NFPA, and CIBSE guidelines.
- Document findings and provide detailed reports on system performance and recommendations for improvements.
- Compliance with Standards and Regulations:
- Ensure that all MEP R&D activities meet local, national, and international building codes and safety regulations.
- Stay informed on changes in MEP-related standards and ensure that new designs are compliant with the latest requirements.
- Support certification processes for energy-efficient and sustainable building designs.
- Project Management:
- Lead MEP R&D projects from conceptualization through to delivery, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Manage teams of junior engineers, technicians, and other R&D personnel involved in MEP research and development tasks.
- Oversee budget management and resource allocation for R&D projects.
- Process Improvement and Optimization:
- Work on improving installation processes for MEP systems to increase efficiency and reduce costs in construction projects.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Educational Background:
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in MEP design software (e.g., AutoCAD MEP, Revit MEP, HAP, TRACE).
- Strong understanding of MEP systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection) and their integration in building services.
- Knowledge of sustainable design practices, renewable energy systems, and energy efficiency standards.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
